Tackling Mt. TBR

I'm an internet junkie that is obsessed with books. I own more than I will ever read in this lifetime and yet I'm still compelled
to buy more. I read mostly romance (mild to completely smutty), YA and urban fantasy.

The Chocolate Thief [Review]

The Chocolate Thief - Laura Florand

I have heard so many great things about this book. It didn't quite live up to all the high praise I've seen, but it was good.

The setting is the real winner here. I think the author did a great job of making me feel like I was there. The Parisians actually seemed French. (I've read books where the hero Frenchman acts like an American with an accent and that pisses me off.) I like that the author really displayed the cultural differences between the hero and heroine. Despite the fact that both the US and France are "western" countries they are not the same and I think some authors get that wrong.

I will admit that the thievery was just kind of silly. I had trouble seeing a professional woman breaking into a chocolate shop because she thinks the master chocolatier is hot (because no matter what she said it was never really about stealing his recipes.) I also found their relationship infinitely frustrating because neither one of them would ever just say what was on their mind. As a result there was a bit too much back and forth in the relationship (which got on my nerves.)

Toward the end though, things got back on track. I actually really liked seeing how Sylvain ultimately just wanted Cade to pursue her passions.

Overall, I would say I enjoyed about 50% of this book. There was a stretch in the middle where I was over it, but I hung in there and it was worth it in the end.

I'm using this book for N in the A to Z Challenge.

This is also third book from my Ten Books to Knock Off My TBR goal for this year.
