Tackling Mt. TBR

I'm an internet junkie that is obsessed with books. I own more than I will ever read in this lifetime and yet I'm still compelled
to buy more. I read mostly romance (mild to completely smutty), YA and urban fantasy.

Laura's Big Break

Laura's Big Break - Janet Elizabeth Henderson

This book was an amusing little diversion.

There were some parts of it that were really funny and I absolutely adored the setting. It made me want to go to Holland (I'd probably skip the cycling and go straight for the pastries.)

I would say the love story was a pretty typical enemies-to-lovers kind of style, with the twist being that they had slept together once as teenagers. When the book began I felt like they still treated each other as if they were teenagers. They had both grown up and had careers (Charlie was a doctor, Laura was a journalist) but despite all this they acted like children around each other. Name calling was the norm and I don't care how petite you are, kicking someone in the shin or punching them is just not cute.

I liked that they both grew up a bit professionally and I do think that was thanks to their relationship with each other. I was a bit disappointed though that they didn't appear to have matured at all in their dealings with one another. But perhaps that is just the relationship dynamic that works for them.

Overall, enjoyable with great scenery, but didn't work for me in every way. I would be open to trying another book by this author if it didn't have the enemies-to-lovers trope.
