I'm an internet junkie that is obsessed with books. I own more than I will ever read in this lifetime and yet I'm still compelled
to buy more. I read mostly romance (mild to completely smutty), YA and urban fantasy.
This is a prequel intended to get you interested in A Spear of Summer Grass, and, in that respect, I think it was quite successful.
The characters that were introduced were likable but flawed (with the exception of the prince who was just flawed.) Ryder is the focus of the story and I feel like the prequel gave a good understanding of the way he lives and how much he loves Africa. The setting is ultimately my favorite thing about this book. I haven't read any books set in this time period in Africa so it had a really fresh feeling and I'm looking forward to seeing what the full length book has to offer.
