Tackling Mt. TBR

I'm an internet junkie that is obsessed with books. I own more than I will ever read in this lifetime and yet I'm still compelled
to buy more. I read mostly romance (mild to completely smutty), YA and urban fantasy.

Buried In the Sky

Buried in the Sky: The Extraordinary Story of the Sherpa Climbers on K2's Deadliest Day - Peter Zuckerman, Amanda Padoan

I learned so much while reading this book about Sherpa culture and the cultures of the many non-Sherpas that get lumped in with them by westerners that do not realize that Sherpa is not a job description. This is a part of the world that I am not at all familiar with and I found the descriptions of the villages and the way of life fascinating.

The book takes the reader through the 2008 K2 disaster with a focus on the native climbers and high altitude porters. I've seen several documentaries on this event and the high altitude porters are generally not discussed much, so this proved to be very insightful.

Unfortunately, I didn't think the book did a very good job of putting me on the mountain or connecting me with the climbers. So while I found parts of it extremely interesting I think it failed as far as emotional impact.
